That's just how Samba works.In your case since you're using the machine account for access, then the machine account needs a UNIX profile or else Samba won't recognize the users. It is often a workstation account, appearing as DOMAIN\HOST$. Having a problem logging in? specify "log level = 0" in smb.conf.
